For the current 2025/26 legislative term, several vacant departments are being filled through by-elections. Working in the Student Council is an honorary position; however, members receive a monthly expense allowance of up to €150. In general, this does not affect BAföG or health insurance.
The Student Council (StuRa) is the highest executive body of student self-governance at BTU. It represents the interests of students towards the university, politics, and the public. In addition to department-specific responsibilities, the representatives work together in regular meetings on current topics and projects concerning the student body.

Application Period
The application period runs from 21 July 2026 until 12 August 2026 .

Required Information for the Application
Applications must include the following information:
- First and last name
- Degree program
- Address
- Date of birth
- Telephone number and/or e-mail address
- Signature
- Current certificate of enrollment
To verify student status, applicants may alternatively provide their matriculation number or BTU e-mail address.
The following documents may also be submitted optionally:
- Curriculum vitae (CV)
- Letter of motivation
Please note: Obviously AI-generated motivation letters are not desired and may negatively affect the evaluation of the application.

How does the election work?
The Student Council is elected by the Student Parliament, which itself is generally elected annually by the entire student body.
The election takes place during official sessions of the Student Parliament. Each department is handled and elected separately.
Before the election, candidates are given the opportunity to introduce themselves personally and present their motivation, qualifications, and goals. Afterwards, members of parliament may ask additional questions.
Participation in the session is not mandatory. Motivation and qualifications may also be presented in another form. Nevertheless, personal participation is strongly recommended.
Following the presentation round, the representatives are elected by secret ballot within the Student Parliament. The election results are then publicly announced within the university.
As several vacant positions are being filled, the elections are expected to take place across multiple parliamentary sessions. Candidates are not required to attend the entire election process; however, attendance during the presentation round of the respective department is recommended.
The election is expected to take place from 28 August 2026 . The exact date for the elections will be announced in due time.
