for the 2026/27 term.
Profile Student Vice-Presidency
The Student Vice-Presidency serves as the communication channel between the University Executive Board and the student self-government. This ensures that the student body is involved in all major decisions made by the university. This requires regular attendance at the university’s highest academic and student bodies (e.g., Executive Board meetings, Faculty Leadership Roundtable, Senate, Student Council, and Student Parliament). Applicants must be fluent in German and have at least a good command of English. Knowledge of additional languages is desirable. Regular presence on campus or on-site is preferred for this role. Previous involvement in student or academic self-governance is also advantageous. The Student Vice-Presidency must act in a politically neutral manner. An expense allowance is provided for the significant time commitment of approximately 20 hours per week.
Responsibilities and key areas of focus include, among others
- Serving as a liaison between the bodies of student self-governance and the University Executive Board
- Regular and active participation in meetings and discussions within the University Executive Board, academic bodies, and student self-government
- Communicating new developments between student self-government and university bodies
- Bringing student perspectives to the University Executive Board Contributing student insights to decisions regarding university development, evaluation of teaching and research, and academic regulations
- Diplomatic understanding and fostering a healthy and dignified culture of discussion
- Assertiveness and confidence in representing the entire student body and its diverse interests
We are looking for
Committed, team-oriented, and open-minded students who want to think beyond the scope of a typical student and help shape the university in the students’ best interests. With fluent German and good English skills, applicants must be able to communicate excellently with the Chancellor, President, Vice Presidents, and the various committees. An open and respectful approach is the norm in these discussions, and applicants should be able to express themselves accordingly. Furthermore, basic knowledge of the structure of academic and student self-governance is expected.
Application Process
BTU students may apply for the position of Student Vice President until Tuesday, June 30, 2026 . Application materials should be sent to praesidium@stupa-btu.de . Documents may also be submitted in person at the Student Council office. Written applications must be received by Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 3:00 p.m.
The application must include the following:
- Full name of the student
- Student’s degree program
- Student’s phone number and/or email address
- Proof of enrollment
- Resume
- Letter of motivation (Letters that are obviously AI-generated are not welcome and will not be considered)
- List and description of committee experience (if applicable)
The resume, letter of motivation, and description of committee experience will be shared with the members of the Student Parliament and the Student Council.
On Thursday, July 2, 2026, the candidacies will be announced to the university community.
The election will take place during the Student Parliament session starting Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at 6:30 PM. All parliamentarians who are members of the Parliament at the start of the session are eligible to vote. Objections to the voter registry may be raised during the determination of a quorum at the parliamentary session.
Elections are conducted on the basis of personal voting; the results are determined after each round of voting and published in the minutes of the session. The election is based on the Student Body Election Regulations in the version dated July 13, 2021, available at http://www.stura-btu.de/downloads/satzungen-und-ordnungen/ .
Voting takes place on a personal basis with a two-thirds majority of the parliamentarians present. The result is announced during the session and published in the minutes of the session. The Student Body’s proposal will then be submitted to the President. The final appointment is made by the Senate.
